Introduction to Joining
Why join?
You will need to join the NZEUR (get a username and password) to logon and apply to open an account or to be authorised to operate an account for the purposes of:
- the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme (NZ ETS); or
- holding and/or trading units
You do NOT need to join if you are:
applying for an exemption from the NZ ETS for holdings of less than 50 hectares of pre-1990 forest land; or
just searching the register or wanting to read the guides.

What happens after I join?
After getting an email notification from the NZEUR approving your registration as a user, you can then login to the NZEUR (this website) and apply to open a holding account or be assigned as a person who will be authorised to operate the account on behalf of the owner the account (account holder).
Am I eligible to join – get a username and password?
Only an individual person can become an online user of the NZEUR. Individuals must provide basic contact information including a physical street address in New Zealand and a valid unique email address and accept the terms and conditions of use of the NZEUR.
Do I qualify to open an account?
Although only specific named individuals can join as online users of the NZEUR, individuals, companies or organisations can open holding accounts in the NZEUR provided they meet the qualifying criteria as set out in the Climate Change (Unit Register) Regulations 2008 and supply the required information as part of the account opening process.
